We are gradually working our way back to a normal schedule.

It's a boy!

We are glad to report that our baby was born! Mother and son are both doing fine, and are back at home. We will be working our way back to full service in the fall! Thanks for your patience!

無事男の子の赤ちゃんが生まれました。ただ今、秋の通常業務に向けて少しずつ準備を始めています。今しばらくのお時間をいただくことになりますが、何卒ご理解くださいますようお願い申し上げます。

Earthquake Update

Thank you to everyone who expressed their concern for us during the current earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear emergencies. We want to let everyone know that we are doing fine. We will update this space in the event of any new changes.

Maternity Leave!

誠に勝手ながら、３月１日をもちまして産休のため、一時Tokyo Pearの活動をお休みさせていただいております。その間、カスタムオーダー等のご注文は承っておりませんので、ご了承ください。今年の秋に、たくさんの新作カードと共に復帰する予定ですので、よろしくお願いいたします。新しいスケジュールは随時ホームページにupして行きます。

We are happy to announce the expected arrival of our new baby this spring! Starting March 1st, we will temporarily not accept any new orders for custom letterpress and design. During this time, our cards, postcards and minicards will still be available in stores. We will return to full service this fall. Please check this this blog and our homepage for updates. Thanks!

たくさんのメディアにご紹介されているお店なので、ご存知の方も多いかと思いますが、こちらでは、世界中からセレクトされた文具やインテリア小物、雑貨やアクセサリー、ファッション小物等を扱っている素敵なお店です。お店の斜め前のアトリエでは、オリジナルで作られたカメラのレザーストラップや手帳、財布なども取り扱っているそうです。またお聞きしたお話によると、ただ今新しい工房を作られているようで、そこでは、革小物や金属加工、箔押しなどのワークショップができるスペースを設けるそう。お近くの際には、是非、足を運んでみてくださいね！

We are excited to announce that our cards are now being sold at benlly's & job in Kanazawa, Ishikawa.

The shop is filled with many unique imported items from all over the world. They also have a workspace for making original leather crafts--camera straps, book covers, wallets, etc. They take custom orders too. The shop owner told me that they will soon be expanding their workshop to include space for metalwork, embossing, and additional leather craftwork. If you have a chance to visit Kanazawa, please stop by!

PLY. Opening Party

先週、"PLY."さんのオープニングパーティーに行ってきました。

smbetsmbさん と megropressさんによって結成された"PLY."は、今年１月から始まった新しいレタープレスのスタジオです。ここでは、仕事場という私的な場所にとどまることなく、たくさんの人に足を運んでもらい、レタープレスの実践の場となっていくことを望んで、この場所を設けたそう。ご覧の通り、とてもカッコいいスタジオで、ここから生まれるレタープレス作品もワークショップもとても楽しみです。

レタープレスを間近で見たい触れたい人はワークショップに参加することをおすすめいたします。是非、お問い合わせしてみてくださいね！

Last week, we went to the opening party for "PLY." in Tokyo.

"PLY." is a new letterpress studio that started in 2011, created by smbetsmb and megropress. The studio is not only their workspace, but a place to visit for anyone who is interested in creating something new with letterpress! As you can see in the photos above, it's a very cool and interesting place to visit.

Tokyo Pear Holiday Schedule

Our copy of "Impressive" finally arrived this week!

It's got some really nice pictures of modern, colorful letterpress products and design. If you are interested in letterpress, you will definitely like it! These are the types of projects that inspire us and our cards.

Japanese Letterpress Workshop - 活版勉強会

昨日は、私たちの活版の先生Ｍご夫妻のところで５回目の活版勉強会。

まずは、定年退職挨拶状はがき。

初心者の私だと活字を探すのに時間がかかってしまうので、すでにＭ奥様が活字をセットして刷れる状態までご用意して下さいました。デルマックスという活版印刷機で印刷することになり、そのお手伝いをさせていただきました。

Yesterday, I had my 5th letterpress class at my instructor Mr. and Mrs. M's shop.

First, we began to print greeting cards for a retirement announcement order they got. The typesetting for the cards was already completed by Mrs. M and was ready to go to print. They taught me how to use their DELMAX printer—it is always a cool experience and one of my favorite parts of this class!

そして、その後は私の活字の文字詰めの練習です。前回は、２度にわたり私と夫の名刺を活字で組んで刷りました。そして今回は、もっと私が活字になれるようＭ奥様から課題をいただきました。慣れない活字に悪戦苦闘、結局すべて見つけるのに時間がかかってしまい、印刷は次回へ。

After that, Mrs. M gave me an assignment to make her business cards with Japanese type. It took a really long time to find all characters of her name and address from the tons of Japanese type in the type cases. After one and a half hours, I finally completed her business card typesetting and will print it with their DELMAX the next workshop.

(Pictured below is my assignment. It is tiny, but it takes forever to set type for beginners!)

Circus Cards - 新作カードCircus

新作サーカスカードシリーズ。サーカスにいるかわいらしい動物たちをデザインしました。

先週のイベントでは、お客様に古いロシアの絵本などに出てきそうですね、とお褒めのお言葉をいただき大変嬉しく思いました。

Here are two new cards from our "Circus" line. I illustrated my favorite animals from the circus. Some people from the letterpress show last week remarked that the illustrations look Russian-inspired! What a nice compliment!

Good Day Cards - 新作カード Good Day

先週のイベントからちょっと忙しくなってしまいまして、ブログのアップが遅くなりました。

今日は、すでにホームページ上では販売を始めた新しいカードのご紹介です。

上の写真は、個人的に私のお気に入りのGood Dayミニカードとカードです。絵本に出てくるようなかわいらしい農園をイメージしてデザインしました。どんな用途にも使えるカードになっています。

Sorry for my lack of updates! I have been a little bit busy with work after the show last week.

I am excited to introduce a new line of cards that have just begun to sell on online.

Pictured above are my favorites: the "Good Day" mini card and folded card. I designed the pictures on both cards. I took my inspiration from vintage picture-book illustrations. You can use them for any occasion.

今回のイベントで、megropressの目黒洋子さんとお話しできたことは本当に嬉しかったです。

以前メールでやりとりはしていたのですが、実際にお会いするのは今回が初めてでした。彼女も私と一緒でアメリカの活版印刷に感動して、今の活動を始めました。なので話が本当に合うこと合うこと！とても楽しくお話しさせていただきました。

It was very nice to meet Yoko from megropress at the Deco Boco Festa.

She had contacted me by e-mail before the show, but it was the first time for me to meet her in person.Like me, she was also inspired by American style letterpress and started her own business.After talking with her, I found that we have a lot in common! It was very fun to talk to her about American stuff.

写真をご覧になるとわかるように、megropressの作品は色づかいがカラフルでかわいらしいものばかり。すてきなカードのイラストもご自身で描かれ、オリジナリティーに溢れています。このボックスは、目黒さんがご自身で布を貼り付けたそうです。残念ながら非売品だそうですが、カワイイでしょ。

As you can see in the picture below, her products are very colorful and pretty. She draws the wonderful illustrations on her cards which really show off her sense of style and originality. She puts the fabric on her boxes by hand. The boxes are not for sale, but aren't they neat?

この封筒の中の花柄の紙も、目黒さんが一枚一枚貼り付けました。本当にやっていることが繊細で、女の子なら絶対手に取ってしまうようなカードです。

She also puts decorative paper inside each of these envelopes. All of her products are so cute and fresh. I'm sure that all types of girls will love them!

今は、ステーショナリーセットや名刺などのオーダーを受けていて、近々、ホームページ上でカードの販売も始めるそうなので是非チェックして下さい。また、オーダーに興味のある方はまずはメールでご相談してみてください。

Deco Boco Festa 2010 is over - 凸凹フェスタ2010終了

昨日、凸凹フェスタが終わりました。私は4日間ずっとイベントに行ってましたが、本当にあっという間でした。お越し下さいました方々に心からお礼申し上げます。近々、詳しくここでイベントのことを書きますので、お楽しみに！

This year's Deco Boco Festa wrapped up yesterday. I attended each of the 4 days, but it went by very quickly. Thank you all for coming to the show! I will talk about the event in more detail on this blog soon.

今週末から始まる凸凹フェスタに出展するカードが仕上がってきました。

Our new cards for the event this weekend are almost completed.

下のグリーンは一見濃く見えますが、紙にのせるとライトグリーンになります。Pantoneの見本帳見ながら、ちゃんと色を混ぜたので私たちのイメージ通りのカラーが出来上がりました。
